so u wanna build a website

here's my repository of everything i've found useful when it comes to building a website! i hope this is helpful for you!

question: where should i even host my site???? idk what 2 do

answer: if ur a beginner i recommend Neocities or Nekoweb. i plan to eventually host my site on Dreamwidth or smth like that, but right now i use Neocities & i find it VERY similar to the UI of the old site builders i used to use back in the day (which was primarily Angelfire lol). i have not used Nekoweb but it looks cool!!!

Intro to the Web Revival #2: Learn about Websites! - everything u wanted to know about websites but were too scared to ask....

sadgrl's webmastery page, which has HTML & CSS guides, layouts, tiled backgrounsd, & a layout builder

NeoThemes has got u COVERED dot com!!!

teppy's layouts & tips. i used the "fluff" layout as a basis for the coding on my blog page. also has free graphics

Gifcities lets you search through all kinds of old-ass gifs from geocities, it's where i get a lot of the gifs i use! hours of entertainment.

Lulu's graphics has animated & grid backgrounds, buttons, & arrow icons

Lissa Explains it All - this is literally where i learned HTML lmao. it's designed for kids but it's very cute

Betty's Graphics - so many retro clip art images & gifs.

Helpful HTML/CSS links - lots of good stuff here

Blinkie maker!!!

88 x 31 button maker on Github

Cool Text - just helps you generate transparent gif text images, like the one i use for my header. helpful if u want a logo or something but aren't exactly a graphic design genius.

Favicon masterpost on tumblr. [archived version]

another tip i have that may be controversial: ChatGPT has been super helpful to me as i relearned how to code! if i'm having problems w/ my coding, i copy & paste it into ChatGPT & explain what's going wrong. about 75% of the time, it's been able to accurately diagnose what was wrong with my coding & fixed the coding for me.

"coding is scary! idk what to do it's so overwhelming! i only have a phone, no computer!"

i gotchu!! there are a few resources that let u drag-and-drop to build ur site & u can do it all on ur phone! i've seen a lot of sites built using these, & they look really cool!!
